The Mainstreaming Migration into Local Development project (MiDL) was launched in 2015 by UNDP Moldova in collaboration with the State Chancellery of the Government of Moldova, with financial support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), aimed at complementing the human rights-based and gender equality perspectives of the Joint Integrated Local Development Programme (JILDP) with the integration of the migration component. With this, UNDP proposes an initiative aimed at exploring the possibilities of systematic and effective linkage between migration and local development. By empowering and engaging communities affected by migration in sustainable local development through the human rights and gender equality perspectives, the project aims to improve access to local public services and income-generating opportunities. The project strengthens LPAs potential to design and implement migration policies linked to local development processes. The present guide is an important tool that will help to ensure the sustainability of UNDP intervention by promoting the adoption of a human rights and gender equality approach in local planning, and also by incorporating communities affected by migration.
